Well this one is headed to the top for 2017 movie of the year list right along with Lady Bird. In Billboards Frances Mc Dormand does her usual no holds barred, straight talking, no bullshit in your face dialogue Her daughter has been killed raped and burned. Seven months later not even one visit from the police, no arrests, nothing. She rents three billboard protesting the Sherrif’s inaction. It gets the town riled as as they defend the well liked Sheriff who coincidentally has cancer. Played by Woody Harrelson. Sam Rockwell plays one of the deputies with perfect dumbed down aplomb. Director Martin McDonagh wrote the part especially for Mc Dormand and there is one scene with the visiting priest that should become a classic in itself. This is a tough movie, but it has also humanity and a razor sharp comedic bent. Well well done.
