They look like a happy family. The dad teaches survival skills to his son (shoplifting). There’s grandma who doesn’t seem to go out much. The youngest girl is being taught her new name. The dad seems to have a philosophy about everything. But as the movie moves along you start to see that they are not related, just a gathering of people with good intentions, (most of them anyway). It is a very interesting movie with some heart and soul, and maybe a few selfish interests thrown in. One of the better Japanese movies as it won the Palme at Cannes.
