chimpances_0 Director Francis Collins of U.S. National Institutes of Health announced that the last 50 chimps held by the government for research purposes will be released from research facilities and sent to chimp sanctuaries. IT IS ABOUT TIME!!

Chimps share 98% of human DNA. They are our very distant cousins. Our keeping them in laboratories all these years in a cage “isolated” and being deprived of being with and living with their own kind…in addition to being “tortured and experimented on” has been inhuman. Shame on you N.I.H.

Thanks to the unrelenting efforts of the Humane Society of the U.S. and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for making this happen.

According to an article in today’s The Record, there are still 400 other chimps still living in private facilities still available for research. Come on guys….give them up. They are being held hostage. We don’t need to keep them any longer. They have served their purpose. They have contributed to society. Let’s release them as well. They deserve to live out the rest of their lives in peace and tranquility, sitting, playing, roaming free on grass and in trees….surrounded by others of their “tribe”.

Even some schools of veterinarian medicine are using models and digital simulators to assist students to learn procedures they will eventually have to perform on animals. Let’s stop treating animals like a lower form of being.

What do you, the reader, think about this?

I vote “NO” to continued experimentation and cruel and inhuman treatment of all animals.
