South Korea makes good movies. Lot of focus on interpersonal dynamics. In Burning we see a young woman and two young men. One of the men is rich. He drives a Porsche, has a vast apartment, lots of friends and is polite and considerate. The other young man is struggling to make ends meet and is mostly alone. The girl works as a dancing barker outside a department store. She is naive and somewhat aimless. Their story, which takes a time to unfold will lead you down a path you did not see coming. The movie really doesn’t develop the character or explain the pieces it puts in front of us but the result works, even if it leaves you with a lot of questions.
